Madam Margaret Aziati, a 32 year old trader, has been remanded in prison custody by a Tema Circuit Court for inflicting deep cuts on the 10 fingers of her 10-year-old son with a razor for allegedly stealing ¢2,000 worth of bread belonging to a neighbour.

Aziati, who is to re-appear in court again on October 18, allegedly beat up her son, Samson Aziati, mercilessly and locked him up in her room at Kaketo at Ashaiman.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court presided over by Mr. Nicholas M. Agbodakpi that on September 29, this year, one Theresa Botchway and Mama Gamga, brought Samson to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Ashaiman and reported the case to them after forcibly opening the door and brought out the boy who looked weak and tired.

Chief Inspector Nutakor told the court that as at 12 noon that day, Samson had not eaten and when carefully examined by DOVVSU officials, his ear was found to be swollen as a result of its constant pulling his mother. He also had visible cane strokes on the whole of his body.

Aziati, Chief Inspector Nutakor told the court, admitted the offence in her caution statement saying she doesn’t want her child to be a thief hence she did that to serve as a deterrent to him.
