Our sources at the national headquarters of the musicians union of Ghana (MUSIGA) indicate that some of the names put about as aspirants to the MUSIGA presidency do not qualify to stand in accordance with the union’s constitution.
According to the union’s constitution, one has to be a member in good standing for more than a year to be eligible.
Names of prominent musicians like Stella Seal Dugan and Gyedu Blay Ambolley have been mentioned as having presidential ambition to lead MUSIGA but our inside sources tell us the two are not qualified to stand. Suffice it to mean, Stella Seal Dugan and Gyedu Blay Ambolley are not members in good standing for more than a year.
When contacted, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, who was once a vice president of the union, told Showghana.com that going by what’s on his membership card, he’s qualified to stand as MUSIGA president. He said when he went to the national headquarters to pay up, officials of the union told him he doesn’t have to go through what ordinary members do considering his status as former vice president of the union.
Gyedu Blay Ambolley said ideally he would want a retired musician to take over the presidency of the union but he wants to stand and win so he can put the structures in place for a retired musician to take over after his tenure. He didn’t fail to add that the confusion over his eligibility is because of a big game of politics that has started panning out within the music sphere.
