Court remands apprentice for biting off colleague's ear

Kumasi, Jan.21 GNA- A district court at Ashanti New Town in Kumasi, remanded Kwabena Osei, an 18-year-old apprentice, for biting off the ear of a colleague. Osei who lived at Kwadaso in Kumasi pleaded not guilty to the offence and will re-appear before the court on January 31. Police Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the court presided over by Mr. S.K Achina that on December 1, 2007, the accused destroyed his master's carpentry shop following s misunderstanding between the master and the apprentice.

Prosecution said the master asked William Coffie, complaint, to assist him (master) to send the accused to the police station. Inspector Apenteng said when the complaint attempted to apply force in his attempt to send the accused to the police station, he (accused) bit off the ear of complainant.

Prosecution said the accused was later apprehended by the police.
