Accra, Jan. 28, GNA - Mr. Anthony Prince Tomety, a staff at the Design Department of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has been selected to represent Ghana in the Berlinale Talent Campus 2009 in Berlin. Tomety, who attended NAFTI, was invited to participate in the Berlinale Talent Campus by the Federal government of Germany, a statement issued by the German Embassy in Accra said on Thursday. Berlinale Talent Campus 2009, which will be from February 5 to 15, 2009 features stars, talents and film industry representatives from around the globe.

Over 19,000 film specialists from 120 countries attend the Berlin International Film Festival each year, the Berlinale, which sells over 200,000 tickets, is a major venue for the film sector and the world's biggest film festival for the public, the statement said. Art, glamour, parties and business are the ingredients in the Berlinale recipe. The jury, headed by Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton, will be facing some tough decisions in the next few days. Films running in the competition for the Golden Bear 2009 include "The Reader" by Stephen Daldry and the Chinese production "Forever Enthralled" by Chen Kaige.

The Berlinale is opening with the long-awaited new film by Germany's star director Tom Tykwer "The International", a thriller with Naomi Watts, Clive Owen and Armin Mueller-Stahl in the leading roles. Films like the Oscar-winning drama "The Lives of Others" by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck or Uli Edel's "The Baader Meinhof Complex" about the terrorist activities of the left extremist Red Army Faction in the 1970s will be featured.

Producers, such as Bernd Eichinger ("Downfall") or Stefan Arndt ("Good Bye Lenin") ensure that new top films are constantly being shot. They have the right antenna for good material, arrange good casts or even direct the films themselves. The young generation of German actresses is particularly convincing with a wealth of splendid talent. Names such as Nina Hoss and Alexandra Maria Lara have long since become household concepts, not just in Germany.
