‘HOT’ Miniskirts and skimpy dresses could not be wished away at this year’s Kwahu Easter celebrations as young ladies and even older women paraded the streets of Mpraeso and Obomeng in miniskirts and shorts during the Kwahu Easter festivities.
Before the celebration, a stern warning had been issued by the vice chairman of the Kwahu Development Association (KDA), Kwadwo Oduro Kwarteng, for visitors and citizens of the area to dress properly and not involve themselves in any social vices like prostitution and stealing. But the warning fell on deaf ears.
Many of the revelers, especially ladies, were seen in ‘outrageous’ miniskirts and dresses as they jammed the streets of Mpraeso and Obomeng, the hotspots of the Kwahu Easter.
The intention of the ladies to defy the warning was not immediately known but DAILY GUIDE realized that most of the mini-skirts and trousers were white in colour.
In the evenings, one could see these young ladies, some of whom also wore blouses and tops that exposed their breasts, wearing the skirts and streaming into Obomeng, the nerve-centre of the celebration.
The Ghana Tourist Board, one of the organisers foresaw 'reckless' sexual life and distributed condom freely to help stem the spread of HIV.
The high street of Obomeng, the Easter ‘Mecca’ of the Kwahus, was taken over by brewery, distillery, and telecommunication companies, fast food operators as well as spinning groups.
All-night dancing and drinking characterized Obomeng high street, with most of the youth drinking their heads off.
The traffic situation got worse on Saturday, April 3 as motorists got stuck in traffic jams for hours.
Many people who spoke to DAILY GUIDE said even though there was not enough money in the ‘system’, they enjoyed every bit of the festivities.
The District Chief Executive for Kwahu South, Joseph Omari, said this year’s celebrations have been outstanding in terms of preparations, adding that the district assembly put in about GH¢10,000 towards the preparations.
According to him, the assembly would seek more corporate sponsorship for the festivities in future so that the assembly’s resources could be channelled into more development projects.
He praised all citizens and visitors for comporting themselves during the festivities, saying “we did not experience any casualty or accidents during the celebration and we thank God for that”.
On the issue of indecent dressing on the part of the youth, the DCE said it would be difficult to ban such dressing since it is a moral issue.
“One will dress decently or indecently depending on where one is coming from and the training that person had at home,” he stressed.
