Tamale Radio Presenter Outshines Agya Koo At A Comedy Show

Wed, 5 May 2010 Source: Hi Newspaper

Fiila 89.3 FM Brunch Time host DJ Carlos last Saturday, May 1, 2010, proved he's Tamale's (Northern region of Ghana) funniest when he held actor/comedian extra-ordinare, Agya Koo to his own game in front of a 4,500 audience at the Tamale Sports Stadium in a show dubbed ‘Who is Who of Comedy in the North 2010’.

While DJ Carlos made an astounding stage entry with three extremely short guys whisking him on stage amidst beatings; Agya Koo's entry was quite ordinary with his signature painted face. Perhaps, his jaw breaking jokes in his native Dagbani language won him the night. In between his jokes, Carlos performed his own humorous renditions of some popular songs such as Yori Yori (Bracket). Agya Koo's act was quite awesome, and later performed to a live band, the concert party-style.

Tagged the pride of the north, DJ Carlos, who has a unique way with funny stories and hilarious jokes on his highly-rated mid morning show, first announced his stand-up comedy talent in a similar show at the Picorna Hotel in Tamale against concert-party star, Bob Okala in 2005.

In an interview with Hi Newspaper’s Alhassan Abdul-Latif after the show, Dj Carlos was so happy about Tamale's patronage of the show. “They showed their appreciation for what I do on radio by the applause and cheering when I came on stage”. Agya Koo told Hi Newspaper that he was happy to be part of the show, which he affirmed wasn't really a contest. “This is to get much closer to my important fans in this part of the country, because of their love for my movies. Folks at the show also witnessed incredible performances by local musicians: Kawastone, Abada, Deensi, Prince D, Nanima, Shinkadoulba and Last 2 dancers. The event was organized by Northside Events Organization (NEO).
