Dominiq: The Birth

Wed, 1 Sep 2004 Source: ghanamusic.com

Dominiq Like a modern-day book of psalms, The Birth reads of a young man?s yearning to praise his God and express worship in his music.

Dominiq Nana announces his debut with this 9-track release of celebration and jubilee. Although the album is definitively urban gospel, the 2x-year-old Toronto native also incorporates several cousin genres, including dancehall and hip hop.

Dominiq?s raw talent becomes clear as he harmonizes his vocals on top of a dancehall-inspired beat on ?You In My Life.? The swirling computerized sample accentuates the delayed bass line, making the track a precise balance between laid-back and dance-inducing. ?I?m New?, a strong R&P ballad, comes complete with keyboard accompaniment and casiophonic claps.

But perhaps Dominiq?s vocals are best displayed on ?True Friend (Remix 2003)?, an urban pop cut that's backed by a symphonic injection of organ scales and warm string bars. Dominiq?s fervent delivery of his lyrics melt over the track ??this is time for everything, the bible say, so I will cheer up, for I know where you are right now.?

Dominiq?s first project is a welcomed addition to any urban Gospel music collection. The Birth is a great preview to this developing young artist?s talent.
