Have you heard the new song about Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak that is making a lot of airwaves? You will be surprise to know that the author is a 21 year old budding Ghanaian musician.
Known in musical circles as Slim Baby, the musician, whose real name is Fred Owusu is all geared up to cause a stir on the Ghanaian musical scene this year. His new album, which is already selling like hot cake, has been dedicated to all football fans in the country.
The album contains nine well composed and expertly backed songs including ‘Kotoko Ne Hearts’, ‘Obiara Nkohye Nicker’, ‘Eyi Amanfoo’, ‘Odo Nti Na Mereba’, ‘Odo Ye Wu Bra Me Nkyen’, ‘Nyame Nhyira’ and ‘Owuo Na Ebetete Yen Ntem’.
The general theme running through the songs is the need for love unity and peace in everything we do. The first track, ‘Kotoko Ne Hearts’ mainly advises football fans to comport themselves during games.
It also reminds losing side that it is only a game and that one side must win by all means. There should therefore be no ill-feelings towards the other side.
Already, the maiden copies of the hit album have sold like hot cakes at the shops at Adjei Boadi and Lucky Sounds in Accra. Kumasi fans can get their copies from King Sarfo Music Production at Asante Market.
Slim Baby has been appearing on GTV’s Breakfast Show of late and has caused much sensation on the show. Born at Bechem in the Brong Ahafo region, Slim took to singing at? the tender age of ten, singing in a local choir group as well as ‘jamming’ with other groups.
He was an active footballer in the local Roman Catholic School’s team and also a member of the school’s drama group, a factor which propelled him into fame locally, especially as he sang to the admiration of everybody during school drama session.
His problem is that he is an ardent football lover; it is in fact his obsession which he can hardly divorce from his passion of music. It is therefore not surprising that he has come out with the album seeking peace from fans of football clubs to let peace reign during matches.
“I detest rowdiness of any”, he said, adding that violence during games is something everybody must condemn and abhor.
He is aspiring to use music to bring peace and orderliness into footballing in the country appealed to all to help him to achieve that aim by buying copies of the CDs and cassettes.
He expressed gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Kwamena Boateng of Dansoman, Accra for helping him to come out with the album.
