Finally the curtain has come down. The ongoing Nescafe African Revelation (NAR) train made its last regional stop at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra last Saturday marking the last phase of the preliminary stages to select groups to contest in the national final.
Over the past one month the NAR has been in the Ashanti/Brong Ahafo and Northern regions of Ghana in its search to unearth musical talents among the youth and groom them to be ambassadors of Nescafe brand.
Auditions, prior to the final show on Saturday, took place at the Osu presby Hall where over ninety groups participated. Ten groups were selected from the lot to face off at the Trade Fair centre. The groups were Mogya Nsiroma, Ahenfie, 3 AM, 12 O’Clock, Elgees, Kitchen, PTA, Bravo, Website, and One Style.
Each group went through three rounds of competition by performing a Nescafe song and a self-composed song, both in acapellas. They then performed a third song to instrumental music.
The judges, comprising musician Charles Amoah, Copper (current Ghana dance champion), radio presenter Akwasi Aboagye, Ama Yirenkyi, brand representative, and Lasisi Tayo Jr expressed satisfaction with the performances.
Hiplife stars, Kwaw Kesse, Praye, Wutah, K.K. Fosu, Reggie Zippy all took turns on stage to entertain the audience.
At the end of the contest, Ahenfie emerged winners while Kitchen and 3 AM took second and third places respectively. They join winners from the other zones, Too Natural, Kete, Kopow, Echo, and MP3.
The eight final groups will compete at the national finals at a later date. Winner of the national finals will compete with Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire, Mali, Senegal, DRC, Burkina Faso, and Cameroon in the Central and West African regional finals.
Successful music groups Praye, Wutah, and Traffic are all products of the Nescafe African Revelation music talent hunt.
