US Army questions Kofi Adoma over gun incident involving imprisoned officer Major Dartey

Renowned Ghanaian journalist Kofi Adoma Nwanwani has been questioned by the US Army over a controversial video involving imprisoned officer Major Kojo Owusu Dartey.

In the video, shared on his Kofi TV platform, Adoma, who is still recovering from a serious eye injury sustained in a shooting incident, revealed that he recently appeared before a court-martial panel concerning a new complaint against Major Dartey.

This revelation has sparked widespread debate, as the video appears to show Major Dartey allegedly pulling a gun on Adoma during an interview years ago.

A report by EDHUB on X, dated June 13, indicated that the US Army panel showed Adoma a segment of the infamous interview, highlighting the incident where Major Dartey allegedly brandished a firearm, an act considered a serious breach of military conduct.

Adoma shared that he had the opportunity to speak with the imprisoned officer, who appeared to be in good spirits and disclosed that he had become a born-again Christian following his ordeal.

He also revealed that Major Dartey’s wife submitted the video footage of her husband allegedly brandishing the weapon to the authorities and had filed a separate complaint accusing him of assault.

According to Adoma, the court-martial panel informed him that his friend and fellow YouTuber, Magraheb TV, was also mentioned in the investigative documents.

Major Kojo Owusu Dartey was sentenced to 70 months in prison in February 2025 for smuggling firearms to Ghana.

Adoma added that his testimony, along with the court-martial panel’s findings, ultimately exonerated Major Dartey of the charges related to the public display of the weapon as a military officer.

However, Dartey was found guilty of conspiracy, dealing in firearms without a license, and additional charges tied to a marriage fraud scheme involving soldiers at Fort Liberty and foreign nationals from Ghana.

Now 42, Major Dartey also faces three years of supervised release for his crimes.
