Film producers, Paul Gee Films, say they have withdrawn all advertisement on the controversial movie, ‘Mallam Issah’ which has attracted protests from a section of the Muslim community.

The United Forum for Islamic Affairs in Kumasi demanded the withdrawal of the movie at a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Security Council because it is derogatory to the faith.

Chief Executive of Paul Gee Films, Paul Agyei, says the advertisement has been stopped in order to calm nerves and explains that the movie was not intended to denigrate the Islamic religion. Mallam Issah, in which actor Adu Kofi also called Agya Koo, posed as a Muslim cleric has incurred the displeasure of the Muslim community since its outdooring.

The Muslim group comprising the AI-sunna Waljamah, Tijaniyya, Council of Zongo Elders, among others, also wants films like Rakiya, Asante Kramo and Agya Koo Makaranta withdrawn and taken off the screens.

The intervention by the REGSEC was timely in averting a possible mayhem as some irate Muslim youth had planned to attack the film makers for ridiculing Islam. Mr. Agyei said he respects the sentiments of the Muslim group.
