Ghanaian MC and creative personality, David Adjei Frimpong, popularly known as MC Portfolio, says this year’s biggest Detty December event will not be a concert or party, but the funeral of the late Daddy Lumba, which he describes as the most anticipated gathering of the festive season.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, December 6, 2025, he said the scale of interest and the influx of people arriving in Kumasi ahead of the funeral confirm its dominance over Ghana’s usual Detty December lineup.

According to him, many Ghanaians abroad have already flown in specifically for the funeral, reinforcing the expectation that it will outdraw concerts, festivals and social events traditionally associated with December.

“A lot more people have flown in purposely because of the Daddy Lumba’s funeral,” he said. “I think the biggest Detty December event this year will be a funeral, not even any other social events.”

He added that the attendance is expected to surpass any December programme, describing the upcoming ceremony as the most patronised and crowd-pulling event of the festive period.

MC Portfolio reaffirmed that December 13 remains the officially accepted date for the funeral, noting that the date was settled after Otumfuo’s intervention. While acknowledging the presence of competing billboards advertising alternative dates, he insisted that no other announcement can override the one sanctioned by traditional authority.

However, he expressed concern about growing tensions linked to the funeral, particularly the public fascination with the alleged rivalry between two individuals said to be surviving spouses of the deceased. He described the rising interest as unfortunate, saying it threatens to shift attention away from celebrating Daddy Lumba’s legacy.

He also warned of the risk of violence, referencing an incident in which a relative of one of the women was attacked near a court hearing.

“It has gotten physical,” he said, calling for heightened state security to prevent any harm during the event.

MC Portfolio urged government to deploy full security measures to ensure the funeral proceeds peacefully and remains focused on honouring Daddy Lumba’s memory.

He stressed that any violence or disturbances would undermine the significance of the occasion, which he believes should be remembered for unity and celebration rather than conflict.
