Ghanaian singer Kofi Kinaata has shared the story behind his new single titled, ‘Have Mercy 2’.

In an interview on Hitz FM, shared on social media on December 9, 2025, Kofi Kinaata revealed that the track originally began as a freestyle. However, he later turned it into a full song after his fans and social media users demanded the complete version.

He explained that his initial intention was simply to post an excerpt of the freestyle on social media.

“I wanted to be selfish, so I just recorded myself in the studio while making the song. The intention was to share it on social media for people to jam with. Then Twist suggested that if we were going to post it, we needed a nice video.

“He even asked me to wear a white T-shirt so the video would look good. It wasn’t even a full song. After sharing the video on TikTok, I came back and saw people asking me for the complete song,” he said.

Kofi Kinaata further noted that, due to the massive demand from fans, he approached Sarkodie for a verse.

According to him, Have Mercy 2 disrupted his initial plans to release another song for the festive season.

Sarkodie delivered 'Have Mercy 2' verse in just five hours – Kofi Kinaata

“When I went to the landlord, he told me he was having a photoshoot, but I should give him five hours. When I woke up the following morning, I noticed he had sent me his verse. He is the one who saved the day, because my fans were disturbing me for part two.

“I don’t understand why they prefer this song for Christmas, because I had another track I wanted to give my fans this festive season. But from the look of things, they want the soft and gospel kind of song for Christmas,” he added.
