Entertainment pundit and artiste manager, Bullgod, has shared his perspective on record label contracts and the obligations artistes undertake when they sign such deals.

Speaking in an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GhOne TV on January 22, 2026, Bullgod explained that record label agreements go beyond just music, covering an artiste’s image, likeness and overall brand.

According to him, an artiste’s image forms a critical part of the label’s marketing strategy, making it an essential component of any contract.

“When an artiste signs a deal with a record label, they sign over everything because the image is part of the marketing strategy. You’re not putting out your voice; everything is important and even your likeness,” he said.

Bullgod said many artistes gain recognition only after signing with a label, which is why labels secure extensive rights in the contracts.

“Before you signed that deal, no one knew you. Your image, likeness and everything is part of the contract,” he noted.

He further explained that record label contracts are not indefinite and usually come with a defined lifespan, after which artistes are free to move on.

“Every contract has a life span. At the juncture where you finish your contract and you no longer have any obligations with the people that you’re done with, you can carry on and do other things,” he explained.

Touching on the ongoing issues involving Kwesi Arthur, Bullgod suggested that unresolved conflicts may be at the heart of the situation.

“I think definitely there are conflicts that they’ve not been able to dissolve. This is not the first time Kwesi has gone out to rant about stuff like that and he’s bagging a lot of public sympathy,” he added.
