Yaw Sarpong passed away in January 2026
The One-Week Observation for gospel legend Yaw Sarpong will be held on February 19, 2026, at Asuofua Park in Kumasi.
Yaw Sarpong’s passing was confirmed by his manager, Nana Poku Ashis, on January 20, 2026, leaving the Asomafo family and the wider gospel community in deep mourning.
Fans are still grieving the recent loss of Maame Tiwa, a long-serving member whose death shook the group only weeks ago.
The ceremony will honour Yaw Sarpong’s life and legacy, celebrating his immense contributions to Ghanaian gospel music.
As founder and leader of Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo, he shaped Akan gospel with a distinctive sound marked by theological clarity, disciplined vocals, and carefully arranged choral harmonies.
The group’s music, renowned for balancing spiritual depth with musical precision, influenced church choirs across Ghana and set new standards for gospel performance and choir direction.
Enduring songs such as Wo Haw Ne Hwan, Tie Obiaa, Aduro Yesu, and Awurade Kasa remain central to worship and Christian gatherings nationwide.
