In an interview with Kafui Dey, shared on X on March 2, 2026, Coach Freeman revealed his entire family was burned alive during an attack allegedly carried out by an Islamic group.
According to him, he was about 15 years old when his family was attacked, and their house was set ablaze while his parents were trapped inside.

When asked where he was at the time of the incident, Coach Freeman said he still cannot explain how he survived. He noted that he had stepped out briefly, unknowingly escaping the tragedy.
“Every now and then, they would come and threaten people. There was this attack, and my family was affected. Everybody was killed except me. It was a wipeout. Not only that, but our house was set ablaze and burned. That’s a story I still don’t fully understand.
“I was in that house that morning. I know I was there between 9 and 10 a.m., and the attack happened around 11 a.m. Somewhere between that time and where I later found myself, I ended up on the other side of town. I don’t know how I got there. Till today, I still don’t know how I got to the other side of town,” he said.
He further shared how he eventually discovered the remains of his family after searching for three days, adding that they were burned beyond recognition.

According to him, his parents were buried in an unmarked location, and since then, he has been unable to identify the grave site.
“By the time I got back, the gate was locked. There was a dead person who had been hacked, and the house was still smouldering. We searched for my father and the rest of the family for three days but couldn’t find them. Someone suggested we go back to the house.
“They returned, broke down the gate and the front door, and found them there. My mum was already ashes. It wasn’t easy. The rest of my family was burned beyond recognition. In the process of trying to identify them, their bodies were crumbling. Eventually, they had to be gathered together and placed in a body bag,” he added.
