Ghanaian music duo, Lali X Lola, have opened up about the realities of being female artistes in Ghana’s music industry, highlighting the importance of having the right team and a solid support system.

Speaking in an interview on YFM on March 3, 2026, Lali X Lola acknowledged that although Ghana is blessed with many talented female artistes, the journey can be challenging.

“We have amazing female artistes in Ghana and they’re super talented. There are so many factors to take into account. If you don’t have the right team or the right people around you, you might fall into the system, or you might compromise,” they said.

According to them, desperation and poor decisions can have long-term consequences in the industry.

“Sometimes, you could be desperate and make one or two mistakes, which would end up following you forever. We are really blessed that we have a good team that can filter all the nonsense because being a female in this music space can be condescending,” they stated.

They also pointed out the financial demands placed on female artistes, noting that appearance plays a significant role in their brand.

“Another is finances. A female artiste showing up to an event, your hair, makeup, outfit, you have to come looking your best,” they explained.

Lali X Lola further revealed that their journey has been made easier by strong family involvement.

According to them, their father acts as their manager, while their mother handles brand positioning, and their brother serves as their producer.

“When we started, our dad asked us if we understood the route we’re going, if we’re ready to face the internet trolls and comments, and we told him that of course we understood. We have a very strong family support system and we feel like that’s what has brought us this far.

“Our dad is our manager, our mom is our brand’s manager, so anything that has to do with our brand positioning, she handles that, and our brother is our producer,” they shared.

They disclosed that in the early stages of their career, financial constraints meant they had to learn and handle many aspects of music production themselves.

“When we started, we didn’t have the budget to outsource anything. We would have to learn for ourselves. My brother learnt how to mix a master from YouTube. We started learning how to sing on the internet, and our dad came in. It’s basically getting the right people behind you to support,” they noted.

Lali X Lola further expressed gratitude for their family’s unwavering support, adding that not many musicians are privileged to have such a strong backing system.

“We are very blessed because we don’t have a lot of musicians who have their families support them like the way we do,” they added.
