Akwaaba Magic commemorated its fifth anniversary on March 2, 2026, with a heartfelt speech by the Head of Channel, Nosisa Mazibuko Doe.

During the event, she reflected on the channel's significant impact on Ghana's media landscape and its commitment to promoting authentic Ghanaian storytelling.

Doe reminisced about the journey that began on March 8, 2021, amidst the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We launched this channel at a time of great uncertainty, yet our vision was clear: to create a premium platform dedicated entirely to Ghanaian stories," she shared.

Since its inception, Akwaaba Magic has successfully filled a crucial gap in the industry by offering a stable exhibition space for local content.

Over the past five years, the channel has showcased a diverse range of productions, including dramas: "Dede"; movies: "Queen of Akra"; and reality shows: "Play By Ear", "Rock That Aisle", and "Husband Material."

Doe highlighted the impressive production statistics, stating, "Our screens have come alive with unforgettable productions."

In total, Akwaaba Magic has produced 621 episodes of drama series, 268 episodes of reality shows, 32 movies, and 1,075 episodes of telenovelas.

Central to the channel's success has been its commitment to authentic Ghanaian storytelling through various languages.

“By showcasing productions in Twi, Ga, Ewe, Fanti, and more, we have ensured that our stories remain relatable and rooted in our cultural identity," Doe emphasised.

This approach has fostered a deeper connection between viewers and their heritage.

Furthermore, Doe noted that Akwaaba Magic has evolved into a cultural force, supporting local talent and the broader industry.

The channel has partnered with prestigious events such as the EMY Africa Awards and the Ghana Music Awards to spotlight Ghanaian excellence both locally and across the continent.

Visionary creatives, including Kwabena Gyansah, Shirley Frimpong-Manso, and Delay, have all contributed to raising the bar in local production.

In acknowledging the channel's stabilising role during challenging moments in the industry, Doe expressed her gratitude to stakeholders, including the National Film Authority (NFA), producers, actors, and the audience, for their unwavering support.

"As we look ahead, our commitment remains unwavering," she stated.

The next chapter for Akwaaba Magic promises deeper investments in local productions, wider collaborations across the creative value chain, and more opportunities for emerging talent.

Doe concluded, “We step into the future with confidence, knowing that the foundation we have built together is strong, resilient, and full of possibility. Here’s to celebrating our past, honouring our present, and embracing an exciting future ahead.”
