Akwaaba Magic, a channel dedicated to showcasing Ghanaian content, celebrated its fifth anniversary on 2 March 2026 at the MultiChoice Ghana head office.

The event recognised the channel's significant contributions to the nation’s creative industry.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb's Naomi Panyin Appiah-Danquah, James Gardiner, a key figure at Akwaaba Magic and a prominent Ghanaian actor, voice-over artist, and television presenter, as well as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), reflected on the channel's journey.

He emphasised Akwaaba Magic's role in promoting local talent and stories, providing a platform for Ghanaian filmmakers, actors, and creatives to thrive.

"First of all, I want to congratulate DStv and Akwaaba Magic. Celebrating five years of promoting Ghanaian content is something we at the NFA will always applaud. We see these avenues as exhibition centres or platforms," he stated.

Gardiner highlighted the impact that Akwaaba Magic has had on shaping the Ghanaian entertainment landscape.

The anniversary event brought together industry stakeholders, actors, and media personalities to commemorate this milestone.

"As a producer, if you embark on a film project and you don't have many outlets to showcase your films or make a profit, then you're not getting much in return. Celebrating five years means Akwaaba Magic has supported producers and rewarded them for their content. This contributes to capacity building, because once there's an influx of creativity, there must be an outlet," he explained.

Akwaaba Magic's commitment to delivering quality Ghanaian content has resonated with audiences, contributing to the growth and recognition of the local film and television industry.

He concluded, "This is one of the platforms that has supported the industry for quite some time, even before Akwaaba Magic was established. So once again, I want to congratulate them and express my gratitude for providing our producers with an exhibition platform to profit from their films."
