With record labels and artistes in Ghana more often than not parting ways on ‘bad’ terms, Dancehall artiste Larruso has disclosed that he is facing challenges with his royalties due to issues with his former management.

The “Killy Killy” hitmaker told Accra FM that although he had fulfilled the five-year contract he signed with his former management, his transition into a new phase of his career has not been smooth.

When asked whether he currently has the rights to his music, Larruso said he does not have control over them.

He added that he also had to struggle to secure his image rights, indicating that at a point his former management did not even want him to upload new music.

“For my image, right, that one I even struggled for it. They didn’t want me to upload music after them, but I was like, ‘No, it’s my music.’ So I had to get wherever I could get to upload the music still. But for the other stuff, I haven’t gone through getting it. I just want to bring out more music for now,” Larruso shared.

Meanwhile, rapper Kwesi Arthur has also made similar allegations, accusing music executive Glen Boateng and members of the Ground Up Chale team of intimidation, financial demands and attempts to block his independent music releases.

In a social media post, the rapper alleged that he is being asked to pay $150,000 to use images of himself for a current project. He also warned that his safety could be at risk amid the ongoing dispute with his former management.

However, music company Ground Up Chale and its founder, Glen Boateng, have filed a writ of summons at the High Court in Accra against the rapper.

Kwesi Arthur is being accused of libel and, as a result, Glen Boateng and his company are seeking more than GH¢10 million in damages over comments he allegedly made in the social media post about a week ago.
