The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has stressed that the Gomoa Easter Carnival should not be seen only as a fun-filled entertainment event, but rather as a deliberate initiative aimed at boosting tourism and driving economic development, particularly within Ghana’s Central Region.
According to the minister, the carnival forms part of a broader effort to deliberately position Gomoa as a lively centre for culture and tourism in the country.
She explained that the event has strong potential to attract visitors from various parts of the world, while also creating business opportunities and generating income for people within the local communities.
She made the remarks while addressing guests during the official launch of the festival in Accra on March 4, 2026.
The Gomoa Easter Carnival is an initiative by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.
The event is scheduled to take place from April 2 to April 5, 2026, across several communities within Gomoa in the Central Region.
The launch event, which was held under the theme “Let’s meet at the centre,” brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including personalities from the creative industry, political figures, traditional authorities, and members of the business community.
Among those present at the ceremony were the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, who served as the chairman for the occasion.
Other notable personalities in attendance included businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye, broadcaster Akumaa Mama Zimbi, and visual artist as well as Guinness World Record holder Sharon Dede Padi.
During her speech, Dzifa Gomashie further urged residents of Gomoa and the wider Central Region to proudly present their authentic cultural identity to visitors.
She emphasised that international audiences were increasingly interested in genuine cultural experiences that reflect Ghana’s true heritage, rather than imitations of other cultures.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we must not look at the Gomoa Easter Carnival as just entertainment. It must be strongly acknowledged that this is a strategic positioning of the Central Region as the heart of national culture and tourism.
“I am optimistic that this new tourism brand for Gomoa is a welcoming avenue to boost the local economy. To the good people of Gomoa and the Central Region, I urge you to showcase your authentic selves,” she said.
For his part, Kwame A Plus said the long-term vision was to develop the carnival into a world-class cultural festival capable of attracting tourists from across Africa, Europe, the United States, and the global diaspora.
He noted that the Central Region possessed both the natural and geographical advantages required to transform it into one of West Africa’s leading festival destinations.
“We are going to ensure that in the next three years we drive thousands of people to Gomoa Central. We need to build more hotels, we need restaurants, we need convention centres, and we need the venues.
“As we officially launch the Gomoa Easter Carnival, let us commit to excellence, to unity, to investment, to opportunity, and to transformation. Invest in Gomoa, visit Gomoa, believe in Gomoa. God bless Gomoa, God bless the Central Region, and God bless Ghana. I say to you, come and let us all meet at the centre,” the MP said.
