Singer Wendy Shay has been strongly defended by her record label boss, Ricky Nana Agyemang (Bullet), who believes no female artiste in the country currently matches her in terms of hit songs and fanbase.

Speaking in an interview on United Television (UTV), Bullet argued that although Wendy Shay has recorded huge success since entering the music industry, some sections of the Ghanaian media have deliberately chosen not to amplify her achievements.

According to him, this attitude stems partly from the fact that many critics and media commentators doubted Wendy Shay’s potential when she first emerged on the scene.

He explained that despite those early predictions by the media that Wendy Shay would not succeed, the singer has managed to build a strong following and produce several hit songs, yet some people still appear reluctant to acknowledge her accomplishments.

Bullet pointed to Wendy Shay’s ability to hold her own concert as proof of her growth in the industry.

In 2025, the singer successfully hosted her own concert in Kasoa, an achievement he believes should have attracted wider media attention, considering the challenges female artistes often face.

He insisted that when it comes to commercial success and audience support, Wendy Shay stands ahead of other female artistes in Ghana today.

“Today, there is no female artiste in Ghana with more hit songs or a stronger fanbase than Wendy Shay, but some sections of the media refuse to acknowledge it, partly because she is my artiste and partly because many people once said she would never succeed,” he said.

Bullet also recounted how his working relationship with the singer began, disclosing that the introduction was made by entertainment industry executive Kwesi Ernest.

He explained that although he was already in discussions with several other artistes at the time, meeting Wendy Shay immediately convinced him that she possessed the determination and resilience needed to succeed in the music business.

He said what impressed him most was the singer’s willingness to leave behind a stable profession in health to pursue music.

“Kwesi Ernest introduced her to me. At the time I was already speaking with other artistes, but when I took a closer look, I realised Wendy was the one. Here was someone who was a nurse but had decided to leave that profession behind to come and hustle in music. That alone told me she was fearless and determined. I knew she was tough enough to face whatever challenges might come her way, so I dropped all the other artistes and chose to begin the journey with her,” he added.
