Following the passing of Daddy Lumba, disputes have emerged within his family
The maternal family of late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba has cautioned that something bad could happen if the family head, Kofi Owusu, fails to produce the body of the late singer.
In videos circulating on social media, members of the family said they would have no issues with the family head if he presents the body of the late musician to them.
When asked what exactly they meant by “something bad,” the family, led by an elderly woman, explained that she would “shed tears” on the family head.
In traditional belief, such an act is considered a spiritual expression of grief and protest, often believed to carry serious consequences for the person it is directed at.
Daddy Lumba's family removes Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu as family head
“If Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu does not bring Daddy Lumba’s body to us, something bad could happen. He should go and bring the body. Once he does that, we will have no issues with him,” she said.
Ghana lost one of its most cherished musical legends, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, on July 26, 2025, after a short illness.
The celebrated Highlife musician reportedly passed away after being admitted to The Bank Hospital.
The final funeral rites for the late Highlife legend were held on December 13, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
However, the burial date was opposed by many members of the singer’s maternal family. Despite their objections, the family head went ahead with the burial arrangements, and most members of the maternal family were absent from the ceremony.
The disagreement over the burial has since deepened tensions within the family.
As a result, on March 11, 2026, the Ekuona family held a meeting to deliberate on a motion seeking the removal of Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu from his position as family head.
The group had earlier held its first meeting on February 26, 2026, where several charges were laid against him, including allegations that his actions had brought the family name into disrepute.
However, Kofi Owusu failed to appear before the family during that initial meeting. The family therefore granted him two weeks to return and respond to the allegations, scheduling a second meeting for March 11, 2026.
According to the family, he once again refused to show up for the meeting. Following his absence, members present decided to proceed with the process and announced his removal as Abusuapanyin.
