Broda Sammy confirmed the divorce during an appearance on United Showbiz
Gospel musician Samuel Opoku, widely known within the entertainment circle as Broda Sammy, has confirmed that his marriage to his France-based Ghanaian wife, Obaa Yaa, has come to an end.
Speaking on United Showbiz on March 14, 2026, the singer explained that the decision to end the marriage was initiated by his now ex-wife.
According to him, he was performing at an event in Manso during the 2025 Christmas season when his family head, Abusuapanyin, called to inform him that the customary drinks used during their traditional marriage had been returned by his ex-wife from France.
He said his family head initially declined to accept the drinks or proceed with the divorce rites because he (Broda Sammy) had not been consulted about the matter.
The singer said he later returned home, where a meeting had been arranged between both families to discuss the matter.

However, he noted that Obaa Yaa did not attend the gathering. During the meeting, she was reached by phone and confirmed that she had instructed her family to return the drinks, signaling her decision to end the marriage.
“I haven’t ended my marriage. It is I who has been divorced. I was performing at a show in Manso during the Christmas period when my family head called to inform me that my drinks had been returned from France.
“They told me that they declined to take them back in my absence and that I needed to come home. I went there, and we called my wife’s family. My wife did not attend the meeting. During our conversations, they said that my wife instructed them to return the drinks," Broda Sammy narrated.
He added, “My family head made my wife’s mother call her on the phone, where she confirmed that she instructed them to return the drinks. When she was asked, she said I had not done anything bad to her.”
Broda Sammy further explained that he eventually agreed to the divorce after realising that he and his now ex-wife had not been living together in Ghana for several years.
He also claimed that certain individuals he once lived with spread false information about him to Obaa Yaa, which may have affected their relationship.
The gospel musician further revealed that the situation worsened when his ex-wife suffered a miscarriage during one of her visits to Ghana, an experience he believes contributed to her decision to end the marriage.
Broda Sammy added that he suspected the marriage was already beyond repair when Obaa Yaa and her family failed to attend his mother’s funeral months before the divorce was finalised.
Despite the painful experience, the singer noted that he remains open to marriage in the future and has even expressed interest in his colleague Diana Asamoah.
