Gospel singer Broda Sammy has shared a difficult past, revealing that he and his friends once resorted to stealing fuel caps from parked cars to survive while growing up in Kumasi.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, the gospel musician explained that due to extreme poverty at the time, they often collected scraps to sell within Suame Magazine, a busy industrial hub known for metal engineering and vehicle repair works in Kumasi.

He said on days when they were unable to find scraps, they turned to stealing fuel caps from parked cars to make money.

Broda Sammy said they were once caught after stealing from a parked car but he managed to escape by hiding under a nearby vehicle, but one of his friends was not as fortunate and was beaten to death.

I had sex in a church – Broda Sammy recounts

“Because of poverty, my friends and I used to collect scraps to sell in Kumasi. On days when we couldn’t find any, we resorted to stealing fuel tank covers from parked cars to sell. One day, we were caught in the act.

“I managed to escape by hiding under a car, but one of my friends wasn’t so lucky. He was caught and beaten to death. I can say without hesitation that theft is not something I would ever encourage,” he said.

Meanwhile, Broda Sammy has showcased a new milestone, disclosing a 50-room hotel he has built in Kumasi.

According to the musician, the facility will be officially unveiled to the public on April 26, 2026, at Kumasi Atafoa Tigo Junction.
