The 2019 awards night ended without an official announcement of the top prize
Head of Communications at Burniton Music Group, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, has disclosed that an official letter has been written to Charterhouse, organisers of the Ghana Music Awards, requesting the announcement of the 2019 Artiste of the Year winner.
Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng told Onua FM on March 21, 2026, that since people spent their own money to vote for nominees, the organisers have a social contract with the public and must make the outcome known.
“We have officially written to Charterhouse, urging them to announce the Artiste of the Year winner from the 2019 VGMA. There is a social contract with the public who voted, and they deserve to know the outcome,” she disclosed.
The 2019 awards night ended without an official announcement of the top prize after a dispute between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale disrupted the event, leading to both artistes being suspended from the scheme for a year.
According to Vida, Stonebwoy has since returned to the awards and gone on to win the Artiste of the Year again after the incident, reinforcing their belief that he was the rightful winner in 2019 and that the record should be made official for historical and data accuracy.
I won 'contentious' unannounced 2019 VGMA Artiste of the Year Award - Stonebwoy claims
“Following the incident that occurred that year, the artiste has since returned to the scheme and gone on to win another Artiste of the Year title. For the sake of history and accurate industry records, we believe it is important that the winner is made known.
“We believe we won that award, but Charterhouse holds the facts. It is only right that they make it public so the record can be set straight, because data and documentation are essential in our line of work,” Vida indicated.
Touching on the current awards season, she also expressed confidence in Stonebwoy’s chances in the 2026 edition, where he is nominated alongside Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Medikal, Wendy Shay, and Diana Hamilton.
“We are optimistic that Stonebwoy can win the artiste of the year again this time,” she stated.
We have written a letter to Charterhouse, urging them to kindly announce the Artiste of the Year winner for 2019, as they have a social contract with the people who voted and therefore owe them the right to know who won - Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, PRO, Burniton Music Group.… pic.twitter.com/hwDmAkUycb
