In the early 2000s, Mzbel dominated the music scene; however, she eventually stepped away, and her presence faded. According to her, the decision was to focus on having children.

In an interview on Peace FM on March 28, 2026, the singer said, “I took a break from music for about six to seven years to focus on having babies, though I released a few songs during that time. Now, I’ve officially dropped a new one.”

When asked whether her new releases are as well-received as they were in her early years, she explained that the songs perform exactly the way she intends.

She added that she no longer pushes her music to be everywhere as before, since parenthood comes with responsibilities. As a result, she does not invest the same level of energy into promotion.

“When I release music, it usually performs just the way I expect it to. I don’t push for it to be everywhere because I don’t have that kind of time anymore, especially with two children to care for. I’m not able to invest the same level of energy I used to,” she noted.

The 16 Years hitmaker also spoke about music promotion, comparing how it was done in the past to how it is now.

She explained that promoting a song today is far more difficult, as artistes must constantly create content across different social media platforms.

This, she noted, is unlike before, when songs were handed to investors, artistes were paid outright, and the investor managed promotion.

She said, with content creation now a key part of music promotion, she fears that in the near future, promotion could become as intense as door-to-door political campaigning.

“Also, music promotion isn’t what it used to be. Now, you have to constantly create content across different platforms. I’m doing my best to adapt because that’s how this generation promotes their music,” she added.
