Co-founder and leader of Ghana’s popular dance group, Dance With Purpose (DWP) Academy, Quables has addressed misconceptions about dance and explained how he and his team have reshaped the narrative around the art form in Ghana.
In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb’s Patience Adu, Quables highlighted the Academy’s impact since entering the Ghanaian dance scene.

He noted that DWP has inspired many young people to take up dance, discovered major talents, and helped establish dance as a professional career.
“We have made dance a career. People used to see dance as something you do for fun or behind an artiste, but now it’s a full-time career. People are making money from it and taking care of their families. We’ve also made songs go global through challenges we create, which spread music worldwide while entertaining audiences,” he said.
Quables also addressed lingering misconceptions, stressing that dance is often undervalued despite its growth.
“People think it’s just dance. They call you to perform and assume it’s simple. But we rehearse, plan costumes, and transport ourselves—there are costs involved. It’s not just dance; it’s a career, a profession people earn from,” he explained, partly in Pidgin English.
He concluded by asserting that Ghanaian dance has become a global benchmark and deserves respect as such.
