Ghanaian photographers, Twinsdntbeg, have opened up about how their photography journey began, a story rooted in curiosity, persistence, and timely support.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment, twin brothers Samuel and Emmanuel Appiah Gyan revealed that their creative path did not initially start with photography.

Prior to discovering their passion behind the camera, they were involved in other creative fields, including music and acting.

Recounting their early beginnings, the duo explained that their interest in photography was sparked between 2014 and 2015 when they had the opportunity to work on a movie set. While assisting both the cinematographer and director, they became fascinated by the cameras, lighting, and technical processes.

'The name Twinsdntbeg was born out of a place of pain and rejection.' - Popular photography duo reveal

“We got the opportunity to work on a film set in 2014–2015. Watching how they used the cameras and lighting intrigued us. My brother was assisting the cinematographer, who was a world-renowned producer, and I was assisting the director,” they recalled.

Their curiosity led them to constantly ask questions about lighting and framing, gradually deepening their understanding.

After two months on set, their interest had evolved into a genuine passion for photography. Determined to pursue it, they tried to buy a camera being sold by the producer’s younger brother, but couldn’t afford it.

Fortunately, one of their superiors stepped in and purchased the camera for them, recognizing their dedication.

“The camera was selling at £50, which was a lot in 2014. Owriss really loved us because of how we helped on set, so he bought the camera for us,” they said.

That single act of generosity marked the true beginning of their photography journey.

Today, Twinsdntbeg has grown into one of Ghana’s most recognized photography brands. They noted that their name serves as a constant reminder to stay disciplined and uphold their values.
