Gramps Morgan is a Jamaican reggae artiste
Jamaican reggae musician Gramps Morgan has urged Ghanaians to better appreciate their homegrown music talent, singling out Sarkodie as an artiste deserving of greater recognition at home.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Prime on March 31, 2026, the Morgan Heritage member stressed the importance of celebrating artistes while they are still actively contributing to the industry, warning that Ghana risks missing the moment.
"People like Sarkodie, he's special. Ghana needs to treasure him before it gets to a point where countries like Russia are honouring him," he said.
Gramps Morgan pointed to Jamaica's music culture, sharing how legends such as Bounty Killer command deep respect and celebration in their homeland, and called on Ghana to cultivate a similar attitude toward its own greats.
The reggae star extended his praise beyond Sarkodie, naming several other Ghanaian acts he holds in high regard.
"Sarkodie is special. Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Samini, Kojo Antwi… these are all special artistes," he said.

He also shared a personal encounter with Ghanaian music royalty that left a lasting impression on him, recalling a cruise ship performance alongside highlife legend Kojo Antwi.
"To witness a real highlife artiste live was incredible. You hear people like Reggie Rockstone talk about it, but seeing it in real life was something else," he remarked.
Beyond words of praise, Gramps Morgan spoke about his active commitment to Ghana's music development, disclosing his involvement in the Gramps Morgan Music Clinic, an initiative aimed at nurturing and supporting local talent.
"These things are very prominent in my heart, my soul, and my spirit," he said.
