Shatta Wale urged his fans not to attack Ambolley
Dancehall star Charles Nii Armah better known as Shatta Wale has responded in the most unexpected manner after Highlife legend Gyedu-Blay Ambolley questioned the legitimacy of his self-proclaimed "Dancehall King" title.
Following what many would term as an attack on his craft, Shatta Wale urged his fans not to attack the veteran musician.
Ambolley had fired the opening shot in an interview on Starr FM on April 2, 2026, arguing that Shatta Wale could not rightfully claim to be king of a genre he did not create.
How can Shatta Wale be Dancehall King of a genre he didn’t create? – Ambolley
Rather than firing back with anger, Shatta Wale took to Facebook with a response that surprised many, calling on his supporters to show the veteran nothing but respect.
"Please nobody should attack him, no disrespect please. I loved this man from infancy and I can't and will never disrespect his views. Maybe we have to learn more in the hard way. Thank you my legend, ano bore at all. It's all love," he wrote.
According to Ambolley, dancehall as a genre has its roots in Jamaica. Thus, a Ghanaian has no right to declare him/herself 'king'.
"Everybody gets up and says they are the Dancehall King, they're a Reggae King. How can you be a Dancehall King when you are not the one who created it? Dancehall was created by our brothers from Jamaica... I think he is joking around because he didn't come up with it; he didn't create it. How can you be a king of something you didn't create?" Ambolley said.
The response has been widely praised online, with many admirers commending Shatta Wale (who is usually known for his outspokenness) for demonstrating maturity and deep respect for his elders in the industry, even in the face of direct criticism.
