Ghanaian Highlife musician Belinda Nana Ekuah Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has become the centre of some online discussions following her recent appearance on United Showbiz on UTV.

During her appearance on the show on April 4, 2026, Mzbel addressed long-standing allegations that she was raped by a well-known pastor in the country.

According to the singer, those claims are untrue and baseless.

Narrating what actually happened, the “16 Years” hitmaker recounted an incident in 2023 involving a pastor, whose name she declined to mention, who allegedly shared a video of her in her pyjamas after inviting her to his office late at night.

Further clarifying the situation, Mzbel explained that the footage, which circulated on social media and was used to suggest she had an affair with the pastor, was misleading and taken out of context.

“Let me explain what actually happened. I had a friendship with a pastor who even told me I was his senior in secondary school, so we became friends. One midnight, while I was asleep, he called me and asked me to come urgently, saying he had seen something spiritual about me. Because I had already gone to bed, I went with some of my boys, still in my pyjamas.

“When I got there, he wasn’t saying anything serious. Instead, he was showing me the décor in his office and behaving inappropriately. I got angry and told him that if that was the reason he had invited me, I wanted to leave. Since he had wasted my time, I asked him for money, and he gave me GH¢1,000, which I shared with the boys I went with. We did not have sex,” she said.

Addressing the rape allegations, Mzbel became emotional and broke down in tears.

She clarified that while she has indeed experienced rape, it was not by a pastor, as widely speculated.

“Something bad happened to me, and I was looking for help, yet people came on social media to criticise me. They kept saying I was raped. Am I the only woman in Ghana with a vagina? It hurts.

“When I was raped, I reported the issue to the police, and it became public. How is it my fault that I was raped? I am deeply hurt, and I just want to go home. The name-tarnishing is too much,” she added.
