Afro Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has opened up about the painful moment he lost his mother, Catherine Satekla, at the 37 Military Hospital, describing it as the most heartbreaking experience of his life.

In an interview with Kafui Dey aired on April 10, 2026, he recalled that he was in New York after winning the BET Awards when he received news that his mother was unwell.

According to him, what initially seemed like a minor health issue escalated.

He explained that his mother collapsed at home twice, which made him realise the situation was more serious.

He noted that at that point, she was rushed to the hospital for urgent care. While he was abroad, updates were being relayed to him by his sister, but he noted that at a certain stage, the information stopped coming as regularly because of the close bond he shared with his mother.

Stonebwoy also disclosed that during a recent conversation with one of his sisters, he had to end the discussion because it brought back painful memories surrounding his mother’s final days.

He said there was a moment when his sister was supposed to inform him about the seriousness of the illness, but she did not, believing he was busy at the time.

He added that he still struggles to come to terms with that decision by his sister.

He said upon returning to Ghana, he rushed straight from the airport leaving his luggage behind to the 37 Military Hospital where his mother was on admission.

On arrival, he witnessed a distressing scene.

“So I came back, rushed to the hospital. And there was that moment I was walking around the block to the entrance. I was seeing some people resuscitating somebody, and that was my mom. So immediately I got in there, then they just pulled her to me,” he recalled.

Stonebwoy said he was the first person to see her in that state and could not believe she was gone.

He added that he held on to the hope that she would recover and wake up the next morning, but that never happened.

The mother of the Reggae and Afro Dancehall artiste passed away in July 2015 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, where she had been on admission for several days.
