Iconic Ghanaian gospel group, the Tagoe Sisters, have revealed some of the struggles they faced in the early stages of their career.

Speaking with Empress Gifty on the UCook show, the twins recalled how, in 1979, when blues, popularly known as “Cool”, dominated the music scene, they had to sing at every gate of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) premises before being granted access to the studio.

“At that time, 'cool tracks' were trending, and getting into the GBC studios was very difficult. We would sing the entire song from gate to gate. It was more like, ‘If you can do it, prove it here.’ Only then were we allowed into the studio,” they recounted.

They added that their parents were unaware of their performances, which made it easier for them to sneak out to GBC, perform, and return home with ₵5 as payment, until a family friend spotted them on TV and informed their mother.
