Stonebwoy is a popular dancehall musician
Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has opened up about a deeply personal moment from his recent visit to the Nsawam Prisons.
He narrated the moment he saw his close childhood friend among the inmates.
The musician, accompanied by his wife Dr Louisa Satekla, had paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of Prisons, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, at the Ghana Prisons Headquarters in Cantonments on April 14, 2026, following a donation of items to the Nsawam facility.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Stonebwoy reflected on what he witnessed and why the visit hit closer to home than expected.
"I come from Ashaiman and I understand what goes on over there. Anytime I go there to visit, I see somebody I grew up with. This time there's somebody that I know so well, we used to grow together. That is my childhood friend, and realising that they are in this confinement for years... nobody goes to prison for fun," he said.

The award-winning artiste said the experience left him both humbled and motivated, urging the public not to forget those on the other side of the law.
"When you visit places like this and you come back, you feel inspired, you feel structured, because really and truly, tomorrow anything can happen. Once you find yourself on the other side of the law, it doesn't matter who you are. You would have to face the very harsh reality that they face over there," he added.
Stonebwoy called on Ghanaians to remember inmates, even in prayer, and to contribute toward their welfare when they can.
