George Quaye is a popular PR expert and playwright
PR expert and playwright George Quaye has recounted the gruelling experience he endured on the night of Sarkodie's Rapperholic Homecoming concert in Kumasi in 2025, sharing how he controlled traffic in the rain while waiting for Sarkodie.
Quaye, CEO of Image Bureau, the communications firm that partnered with Sarkodie for the 2025 Kumasi concert, said he arrived at the venue straight from his hotel shortly after 5pm and stayed through the chaos that followed when heavy rain hit the grounds.
"When the rain started, I was there till like 3am. At some point, I became a traffic controller. The traffic was so mind-blowing. It was taking Sark and the team hours to get there.
"So I was with the soldiers and the police, and we were all controlling the traffic, standing in the rain. I was soaked in water," he recalled in an interview on the 'Talk No Dey Cook Rice' podcast.
With a play scheduled at the National Theatre in Accra the following day, Quaye skipped sleep entirely to avoid missing his flight. Instead, he stayed up playing Scrabble on his laptop until his driver arrived.
"If I decided to sleep, I'd probably oversleep. So I just opened my laptop and started playing Scrabble just so I wouldn't fall asleep," he said.
The 45-minute flight from Kumasi to Accra doubled as his only sleep. He landed, drove straight to the National Theatre, and was on stage by 4pm.
Reflecting on it, Quaye said he had no regrets.
"This is Sarkodie. If Sarkodie's show flopped and I realised I could have done something about it, I'd probably not be able to live with myself. So I was happy I was there. I was able to satisfy my client, and I was able to support a brother," he said.
