'TGMA is my Grammy' - Medikal fires back at critic

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has responded to a social media user who mocked him for prioritising the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) instead of chasing international recognition like the Grammys.

The exchange happened on X on April 17, 2026, after Medikal expressed his desire to win Artiste of the Year at the TGMAs.

According to the netizen, Medikal should be chasing Grammys instead of focusing on the TGMAs, adding that he is too old for such awards.

“Bro, your mates are fighting for Grammy; you’re here fighting over TGMA with a 24-year-old Black Sherif who’s asleep by now. Smh,” the netizen wrote.

In response, Medikal said he considers the TGMAs as important as the Grammys, insisting he is determined to win the awards he has been nominated for.

“Well, TGMA is my Grammy, my World Cup, be that,” he replied.

Following the exchange, some fans of the rapper took to social media to applaud him for valuing one of the country’s most prestigious award schemes.
