Actor and comedian Funny Face has shared the emotional and financial support he received from the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, during a challenging phase of his life.

In an interview with Vida Adutwumwaa, he disclosed that the former IGP encouraged him to prioritise his own wellbeing, stressing that if he failed to stay focused and take care of himself, he risked losing his life and leaving behind the very children he was trying to protect.

According to Funny Face, those words had an impact on him and guided him through the difficult period surrounding his divorce and personal struggles.

He further disclosed that at his lowest point, he was given money by the former IGP at the end of every month for over a year.

Although he did not mention the exact amount, he described it as substantial. He noted that the support was mainly used to cover his medical expenses and other essential needs.

“At a point things were very rough so it was Dampare who was taking care of me. Dampare was sending me money every month. I did it for over a year. There was a police officer in charge who sent it to me or even sometimes I went to the Police Headquarters for it myself,” he shared.

Funny Face expressed gratitude for the intervention, adding that he had kept it private for a long time out of respect, believing the former IGP might not have been comfortable with it being made public.

“For my healing, I will forever appreciate him. He wouldn’t be happy I am mentioning his name out here, but I have kept it for long,” he added.

He also recounted moments during his struggles where he was disciplined by Dampare, including an incident where he was reportedly placed in custody, which he believes was part of efforts to help him regain stability.
