Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster and Author, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, has opened up about her emotional journey to motherhood, revealing the challenges she faced before welcoming her first child.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on April 23, 2026, she disclosed that fear initially gripped her due to widespread beliefs about childbirth after age 40.

“I was scared to think of childbirth because I heard it’s impossible to have a child after 40, but I had my first child at 47,” she said.

Gifty Anti recounted how her pregnancy required careful medical supervision, including being placed on bed rest.

According to her, her family had even suggested she travel to the United States to deliver, given the complexities involved.

“I remember my cousin wanted me to come to the U.S. to deliver my baby there. That’s because they had to put me on bed rest and all that. I was scared, but the doctor took me through,” she stated.

She further disclosed that her path to motherhood was not natural, explaining that she underwent InVitro Fertilization after several unsuccessful attempts.

“I went through treatment and I’ve written about it in my book. It didn’t happen naturally; I did IVF and I had failed IVFs before this one worked. All the treatment I went through, I have the scars to show for it,” she shared.

Gifty Anti said she remained hopeful and prayerful throughout the process, even considering adoption at one point.

“I wanted a child. I prayed and told God that if it doesn’t happen, I’m going to adopt a child. At a point, I met my doctor and he told me that my womb is fine, so let’s try. We tried and by the grace of God, it happened,” she added.
