Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has stated that if he were Ghana’s tourism minister, he would have been able to tell where famous chief priest Okomfo Anokye went to.

Speaking with Ghanaweb’s Elsie Lamar on talkertainment, he stated that Ghana is not doing enough when it comes to telling its own indigenous stories.

He stressed that it is important for the country to tell its stories the way they truly are, adding that if it is not done, others will end up telling them differently.

He also spoke about the need to grow tourism, stating that he sees potential in many things around the country.

He pointed to the three-headed palm tree in the Eastern Region as an example, adding that similar trees can be found in his constituency and other parts of Ghana, which can also be developed into tourist attractions.

“I would create a lot of tourism, everything to me has a tourism potential so I will cause people to come and see. When I was younger I went to Boti falls to see the three headed palm tree, there’s one in my village, there’s another one in one of the towns in my constituency. The problem is we are not telling our stories as others have done,” A Plus said

He further established that Ghana needs to invest more in telling the stories of important figures who played key roles in shaping the country.

He mentioned Okomfo Anokye, and King Aggrey whose stories, he believes, has not been fully explored.

A Plus raised questions about the chief priest’s life, including where exactly he came from, who his parents were, and what eventually happened to him. He noted that although it is believed Okomfo Anokye was born in “Awukugua” and later moved to the Ashanti Kingdom, there are still many unanswered questions about his life and disappearance.

“Okomfo Anokye conjured the golden stool from the sky, who are his family people, from which home, where was he buried, if he was even buried and if he didn’t come back if I were a tourism minister I can tell you where he went to” he said.

According to A Plus, these are the kinds of stories that can be told in a way that people will believe and connect with. He maintained that if he were tourism minister, he would focus on telling such stories to help promote Ghana to the rest of the world.
