'I was labeled barren after one year of marriage’ - Ohemaa Woyeje opens up

Outspoken Ghanaian media personality Ohemaa Woyeje has recounted the challenges she went through during the early stages of her marriage.

In an interview with MzGee aired on April 29, 2026, Ohemaa Woyeje revealed that she was labelled barren during her first year of marriage.

She explained that during the early phase of her marriage, she and her husband wanted to enjoy the happiness and fun that came with being a young couple before having children. However, some Ghanaians did not understand their decision and instead called her all sorts of names.

According to the renowned media personality, the name-calling took an emotional toll on her.

“They made it seem like, look at us, a young couple, we were supposed to enjoy all the romantic moments and good times before even thinking about getting pregnant and having children, because automatically, when kids come, they take a major part of the fun you share as a couple. But Ghanaians did not see it that way.

“I remember even during our first wedding anniversary, people were asking, ‘What are they celebrating?’ So that meant that one year of marriage without a child was not worth celebrating because you had nothing to be proud of as a wife, and that felt so bad,” she said.

Ohemaa Woyeje also shared the challenges she faced with her husband’s family as a result of the social media attacks.

She explained that at some point, some members of the family believed the allegations and began to doubt whether she was the right woman for their son.

“I mean, for my husband, I did not have a challenge with him. But I had challenges even from his family. At a point, because people had already said so much and the internet does not forget, some of the allegations people put online were that I did not even have a womb,” she added.
