Sonnie Badu is a Ghanaian gospel preacher and singer
Acclaimed Ghanaian gospel singer Sonnie Badu has recounted the struggles he faced when he released his popular song, "Baba."
In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM, and shared on Facebook on April 30, 2026, Sonnie Badu revealed that he was homeless in the United Kingdom before the song’s release.
He explained that during that period, he prayed to God for a life-changing breakthrough while sleeping in cars.

“When I came up with ‘Open the floodgates’, I was at a point where [I said] God, you’ve got to do something. In London, I was homeless. I was sleeping in cars. I asked God for one song,” he said.
Sonnie Badu further shared how "Baba" has impacted many lives, noting that listeners have been able to relate deeply to the song's message.

“I love spending time in God’s presence, and as Phil said, everybody has a story behind their songs. When you’re going through the process, you don’t realise that you’re doing it for so many people.
“The spirit that inspires a song stands in the gap for others who can relate to what you’re going through. That grateful spirit you express makes people connect with it because they feel the same way,” he added.
