Joe Mettle is a Ghanaian gospel musician
Multiple award-winning gospel musician, Joe Mettle, has explained his decision to opt out of the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), saying he is in a season of his life that demands quietness and focus.
The musician, who has been one of the most decorated acts at the TGMA over the years, said the decision is not a slight against the awards scheme but a personal and spiritual choice.

Speaking on the matter in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM on April 30, 2026, Mettle acknowledged that being nominated for awards comes with its own wave of pressure and that he is simply not in a place to engage with all of that right now.
"Many times when you are nominated and stuff, there's so much you have to deal with. Responses and people's thoughts; ones that believe you deserve, and those who think you don't deserve. It's not even about tiredness. I just feel like I'm in a place in my life where I need a bit of quietness to focus on certain things I believe this season of my life, God is leading me to do," he said.
Mettle stressed that he cannot afford to be distracted from what he senses is a defining period in his journey, and that anything falling outside that path has to be set aside for now.
"I can't be distracted right now. So, anything else that is not part of the journey right now, I just wanted to put it on hold," he said.
He was careful to clarify that his decision to step aside carries no ill feeling toward the TGMA.
"I'm not downplaying or saying anything bad about the award. I'm just saying that at this time, I just want to take a backseat for now," he added.
