Ghanaian musician Wendy Shay has revealed that some key figures in the music industry once doubted her potential to succeed.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey on May 4, 2026, Wendy Shay recounted how she faced discouragement early in her career, despite her strong belief in herself.
According to her, some industry gatekeepers even advised her manager, Bullet, to drop her, insisting that she would not make it in the music scene.
“I’m always grateful to Bullet for being that person who understood everyone’s journey. He never made me feel less of myself and he actually saw the bigger picture. Even though people told him he should forget me,” she said.
Wendy Shay disclosed that one prominent industry figure openly told her to her face that she would not succeed.

“Big industry gatekeepers told him that and I was there. A big person in the industry said it to my face that it’s not going to work for me. He said I wouldn’t hit right in front of me,” she disclosed.
Despite the criticism, she maintained confidence in her abilities and encouraged her manager to believe in her vision.
“I told Bullet not to listen to him because I believed I would hit. Bullet said that he’s rather listening to what God was saying and I’m really grateful for that,” she stated.
Wendy Shay further recounted that after achieving success, the same individual attempted to downplay her efforts.
“When I became a hit, I remember vividly that I was in a car going to the studio with Bullet and the person called again and said I didn’t hit because of me, but rather Bullet. Since he said I wouldn’t hit and I have, he wants to downplay my hard work and credit someone just so he would feel better,” she added.
