Since 2025, LynneX Save the Children Foundation has closely followed and supported the heartbreaking case of Nhyira Afrema Tano, an 8-year-old girl who bravely battled leukaemia.
Throughout her journey, the Foundation made meaningful contributions toward her medical care and consistently updated the public, whose generous donations helped sustain her treatment.
The Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to all individuals across the world who contributed financially and emotionally to support Nhyira and her family during this difficult time.
In an effort to save her life, the foundation produced a short documentary capturing her health struggles, and also the foundation established GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising funds to fly Nhyira to outside Ghana for a bone marrow transplant.
For further medical attention the documentary gained significant attention on social media, inspiring widespread support and donations that helped cover her daily hospital expenses at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
In collaboration with the Oncology team at Korlebu, the foundation was able to initiate a referral for care from St Jude Children's hospital in America to help with treatment and Bone marrow transplant, however, the hospital could not accommodate Nhyira.
However, as Nhyira’s condition worsened and flying overseas was no longer an option or feasible, the Foundation in consultation with Nhyira’s parents, redirected the founds towards her ongoing treatment in Ghana.
On March 3, 2026, LynneX Save the Children Foundation, CEO Ms Cynthia Raymond transferred a total of GHS 10,725 from the GoFundMe account to the Foundation’s team in Ghana without urgent intervention.
The amount was duly withdrawn and handed over to Nhyira’s parents to support her hospital bills.
Tragically, on March 9, 2026, the Foundation received the devastating news of Nhyira’s passing. Her death has left the team, her family, and supporters in deep sorrow. Despite her courage and resilience, she could not overcome the illness.
In solidarity with the bereaved family, LynneX Save the Children Foundation supported her funeral arrangements and extended financial assistance as a gesture of condolence.
Nhyira’s passing has reignited national concern about the growing number of children battling leukaemia in Ghana and the lack of advanced treatment options within the country.
The Foundation is calling on the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health to prioritize funding and resources for childhood cancer care. Without urgent intervention, many more children risk losing their lives to treatable conditions.
As an NGO committed to child welfare through its “Save the Children Campaign,” LynneX Save the Children Foundation continues to advocate for children facing health challenges, lack of education and other vulnerabilities.
The organization is now appealing to individuals, corporate bodies, institutions, and government agencies to collaborate in providing life-saving support and creating sustainable solutions.
Nhyira’s story serves as a painful reminder of the urgent need to strengthen healthcare systems and give every child a fighting chance at life.
