Mzbel is a Ghanaian songstress
Veteran Ghanaian musician Mzbel has opened up about a painful chapter of her early career, revealing that her father withheld support from her when she ventured into music and was even embarrassed to acknowledge her chosen career.
Speaking on United Showbiz on May 2, 2026, the "16 Years" hitmaker disclosed that her father's attitude only changed after she had achieved success and visibility on the world stage.
"I didn't get any support from my father when I ventured into music. He didn't even like it. He was always complaining. He was even shy to tell anyone that I was into music," she said.

Mzbel revealed that it took her being famous and travelling around for charity work for her father to finally warm up to her and her craft.
"It was until I started getting famous and I was travelling the world, doing charity work and all that because of music. That was when he warmed up to me. He started calling me when he saw me in the newspapers," she said.
The musician said the experience has made her passionate about parental support for children in the creative arts, expressing that things could have been considerably different for her had she had that backing from the beginning.
"I love it when parents support their children in the arts. If I had that, maybe things would have been easier for me," she said.
