Radio presenter Ohemaa Woyeje has said she deliberately avoids placing expectations on the gender of any future child, explaining that doing so could take away from the joy of childbirth.

The broadcaster, who has two daughters, shared the perspective during a conversation with MzGee, noting that she and her husband are currently content with their family as it is.

“My husband is okay with the two for now… and I’m also okay with it too,” she said.

She added that any decision to have more children would depend on circumstances changing over time.

'I call it torture' - Ohemaa Woyeje on her second pregnancy

Woyeje shared her experiences, noting how her first child was born in June 2019, following a pregnancy that came after months of public scrutiny and pressure about her fertility.

That delivery, she indicated, was relatively smooth and took place abroad after she had travelled to Europe during the pregnancy.

Her second daughter was also delivered in Europe but unlike the first, the second pregnancy came with what she described as a painful and demanding delivery experience.

Asked if she ever yearns for a male child, Woyeje said she does not approach childbirth with gender expectations.

Drawing from her own background as the only female among her siblings, she said she prefers to remain open to any outcome.

“I don’t want to expect so that I don’t get disappointed,” she explained.

She noted that the anticipation of a male child could overshadow appreciation for the child eventually born.

For her, the focus is on acceptance rather than preference.

“If a boy comes, fine. If a girl comes, fine,” she said, adding that she would rather embrace “another beautiful angel” than risk attaching disappointment to childbirth.
