The movie ‘Monica 2’ by Nigerian filmmaker Uche Montana, which is arguably one of the biggest Nollywood films on YouTube, has gained huge attention, with actress Blessing Onwukwe disclosing that she earned more than ₦1 million for her role.
In an interview on Yanga FM on May 5, 2026, the actress, popularly known for her controversial “Mama Monica” character, said the success of the film was also reflected in her earnings.
“Monica passed one million. It passed one million for Monica II. I don’t want to call any other amount, but it’s more than one million,” she said.
Onwukwe also shared how she got the role, explaining that she was contacted unexpectedly and later had to carefully study the script before stepping into character.
“I started thinking about how I was going to bring the character to life. I had to create a background story for her,” she explained.
According to her, the viral Nigerian film Monica 2, produced by Uche Montana, was shot in seven days, while the first part, Monica 1, was filmed in five days.
The film tells a story centered on family struggles and the challenges faced by a firstborn daughter, and has continued to generate strong reactions from viewers, with many praising Onwukwe’s realistic portrayal of the manipulative mother figure.
