Musician Wendy Shay has shared memories of the late Ebony Reigns, speaking about how much she admired the singer before her passing.

In an interview with media personality Kafui Dey, Wendy Shay recalled meeting Ebony for the first time in Kwahu.

According to the ‘Too Late’ hitmaker, her uncle hosted an event in Kwahu where she finally got the chance to meet Ebony, whom she had long admired because she related to her songs and those of Shatta Wale.

Wendy Shay explained that although she attended the event, she was unable to watch Ebony perform because she was occupied with coordinating artistes and handling other activities. As a result, she only had a brief moment to greet Ebony and take a photo with her.

Speaking about where she was when news broke of Ebony’s death in February 2018, Wendy Shay said she was in Germany at the time. She described the moment as painful, considering the bright future many believed Ebony had ahead of her.

“I was in Germany and it was heartbreaking. Because we all knew she was heading towards a great future. So it was heartbreaking. My mum informed me. I had woken up on the train heading to work when she sent it to me. I mean it was devastating. A big loss to the family and the industry,” she said.

Addressing whether some Ghanaians found it difficult to accept her after she was signed by Bullet due to their love for Ebony, Wendy Shay said she cannot speak on behalf of the public.

“I am not in the right place to speak for Ghanaians. They had lost a gem, her friends, loved ones, and fans, including me. I know how the news of her death made us feel. But once again, I am not Bullet. He is the one who signed me.

“He is the record label executive and knew what was best for the label at the time. There were other people, but he chose me. So unless you ask him what he saw, I can’t say,” she explained.
