Ghanaian musician, Kuami Eugene, has stated that winning a Telecel Ghana Music Award (TGMA) should not be used as the only measure of success in the music industry.
Speaking in an interview on MX24 on May 6, 2026, the singer explained that several artistes have enjoyed long and successful careers without necessarily relying on award recognition.
“TGMA doesn’t define who’s doing better in the industry. There are some artistes who have been here for decades and they’re still doing well,” he said.

According to Kuami Eugene, artistes should not feel discouraged if they fail to win an award on an award night, stressing that hard work and consistency remain important.
“Sometimes they forget if they’ve ever had a TGMA award before. It’s all good if you’re not the champion for that evening,” he shared.
He further encouraged fans to continue supporting their favourite artistes regardless of award outcomes.
“Your fans should be proud of you because you’ve worked as hard as everyone,” he added.
